The guardians of Erwin Bowien's legacy
The Freundeskreis Erwin Bowien e.V. has existed since 1976, when it was founded at the old Deutsches Klingenmuseum in Solingen, now the site of the Solingen Art Museum. Even in his lifetime, Erwin Bowien wanted to keep his life's work permanently in the public consciousness. He proposed setting up an association for this purpose. This wish came true through the engagement of his student, Bettina Heinen-Ayech. The organisation soon became active and has produced several publications, an annual newsletter, and about thirty exhibitions. Bowien was a true European ahead of his time. The association reflects this focus and has members from Algeria to Norway, everywhere where Bowien was active. The association sees itself as the guardian of Erwin Bowien's legacy.
